TEDTalks | Eleanor Longden: The voices in my head

This was amazing!

Many mental 'illnesses' can lead to sensory hallucinations, and it's likely that everyone knows someone with some such condition. There are neuroscientific reasons for these hallucinations, where sensory information is cross-linking with different portions of the brain. A person experiencing this is certainly abnormal, though the result can be harnessed as advantageous for a person to gain superhuman powers. A person who hallucinates halos of color around numbers gains an extra pneumonic for remembering them, a person who perceives a halo of color around people gains insight towards some of their own hidden feelings toward that person.

Many of us have problems dealing with traumatic events, or finding a healthy way to emotionally cope with problems. Some of us find healthy ways, and many of us don't, though it's an internal struggle for all of us. In her case, her condition let's her have an EXTERNAL struggle with her problems, which she uses as a tool to help her cope with otherwise unmanageable emotional issues.

Kudos to her for helping to remove some of the stigma for some of these mental disorders! I wish she could expand her horizon to people with other disorders, to help them achieve the same level of understanding and benefit.

Presented, for your analysis; A "Featured Video" on YouTube (Sift Talk Post)

That's an unfathomable amount of hits by comparison. I don't understand how it got so many more hits than the other. Definitely an anomaly.

OK, so I went to www.videowhip.co.uk It's one of those sites that operates purely on ads and hijacking. They have several pages of Youtube embeds - none of them looked authorized. The page is filled with Google ads and provides no real value.

Going to the site will only generate revenue for the creator of the page. Interestingly, there is a link at the top of the page that lists the "Partners to the site. Going to that link, the page is blank like they had a list and then deleted the list of partners. (I wonder how many domains they have up and running?) What they do have just on this one site is a separate page for each vieo any every page has a text link to every other page.

I'm guessing this person has quite a few domains, all filled with hijacked content just for the page views/hits/$$.

Someone is getting rich of of someone else's content. I can only assume this is why they view count is so high. With the right keyword placements and enough cross linking, they would automatically get the traffic by hijacking Google search results due to gaming the system.

Reusable Spitballs. If you can find them again.

Allow Self-Linking for Dead Videos (User Poll by burdturgler)

... As for fixing your own dead video with a video you have hosted, I don't see how that's any different than posting your own video originally. The result is certainly the same.

The result is also the same if I ask you to go download this
http://www.speedyshare.com/761429266.html
then throw it on some obscure site .. then send me the embed code (or fix it yourself assuming the poll goes well)
and then I fix http://www.videosift.com/video/SYTYCD-Kameron-Lacey-Contemporary with it.

what's the difference if you do it or I do it?

>> ^Farhad2000:
Legally we'd be fucked because we'd all be linking and cross linking copyrighted materials. It could get the sift into trouble given that the site enables and encourages it.
I think we should simply let videos go, videos are ethereal and some of my favourite ones are forever gone. I deal with it because there is more out there.

We're already doing it. I'm hosting several embeds for people right now. The difference is, I gave them the embed code and let them fix it themselves because I was told that fixing it myself is self linking.

How to keep VideoSift's community vibe going (Blog Entry by fissionchips)

*quality Ideas.

Cross Linking is an art that many sifters already partake in, never a bad idea to remind others, the extra minute or two it takes to add a link to a clip goes a long way.

Blogging about clips that appear on the sift give them a second light and could perhaps bring extra attention to said clip.

Okay some rules for this kind of thing.

1. Both Sifters must agree on the topic they will tackle, it must be similar in nature but opposing to each other.
2. Both Sifts must carry similar Titles (e.g. Best Face Hit - 9 inch dildo, other Best Face Hit - Fall)
3. Both Sifts should be submitted at the same time and cross linked to each other.
4. The winner is the video that first graduates the queue.
5. Both Sifters should upvote each others videos.
6. Logical and rational debate on the merits of the videos is encouraged.

What do you guys think.
